William Venson Hill's Obituary
Mr. William Venson Hill, fondly known as Bill Hill, was born in 1934 to the late Nora and Roy Hill in LaGrange, Georgia. He is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Mary Ellen Hill, and their two daughters, Jade Hill Coston and Kimberly Hill Buckaloo. In addition, he is survived by William Hill, Jr., Vinson Hill, Beth Hill Wood, Phillip Hill, and five grandchildren.
He attended Rome High School and Shorter College in Rome, Georgia. Through his enlistment in the United States Air Force, he served our country with pride in the Korean War. His service as an Airman and his business career allowed him to experience life in 43 different places around the world. The bulk of his business career was with Orkin Exterminating. He started as a salesman and worked through the ranks as a branch manager, regional sales director, district manager, and Vice President of Sales. Mr. Hill received numerous accolades as a top performing salesman and manager. In addition to being a part of Orkin’s prestigious President’s Club, he was awarded Orkin’s World Record for termite sales in 1994. He developed and authored Orkin’s Sales Manual and trained hundreds of sales professionals. His career culminated with the ownership of the Gainesville, Florida Orkin Exterminating franchise.
As a local business owner, his passion became mentoring younger professionals. He was bestowed the 2012 Paul Hardy Mentoring Award through the Orkin Franchise Division. To support business professionals in a variety of industries, he initiated the Newberry Business Alliance with a mission of supporting and fostering the entrepreneurial spirit of current and future business owners in Newberry, Florida. He envisioned a business community of Go-Givers.
In his spare time, Mr. Hill could usually be found between the pages of a good book. He enjoyed suspense novels, although he was a prolific reader of motivational and leadership books. In his youth, he enjoyed playing football and other sports. Throughout adulthood, Saturdays in the fall season were devoted to college football. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He believed in life-long learning, giving to the community, and the power of the American spirit.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 2:00 P. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd St., with Rev. Glen Busby and Rev. Rocky McKinley, officiating. Interment services will be held in Shadowlawn Cemetery, LaGrange, Georgia.
