William C. "Dub" Geiger's Obituary
William C. “Dub” Geiger, was born July 30, 1924 to Cleveland and Edna Geiger of Levy County.
He graduated from Bronson High School in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Army July 1944. On April 6, 1945 he was wounded and captured by the German Army. He was discharged in December 1945 and received the Purple Heart.
Dub married Inez Grace Thornton August 30, 1946. He enrolled in the University of Florida in September 1946. He received his B.S.A. in agriculture education from the University of Florida in September 1949.
He moved to Fort Pierce, Florida and became an agriculture teacher. After three years of teaching he resigned and moved back to Gainesville and went into business with his brother-in-law. He was co-owner of the B & G Farm Supply from 1952 until 1968 when he sold his interest to his brother-in-law.
In 1957 he received his master’s degree from the University of Florida. In 1968 he became Vocational Agriculture Teacher at Gainesville High School. After two years, in 1970, he transferred to Santa Fe High School Agriculture Department.
In 1980 he was selected as the Outstanding Vocational Teacher of the Year in Alachua County and given the W.T. Lofton Vocational Award. He retired from Santa Fe Agriculture Department after sixteen years in July 1986.
He was an active member of the Alachua Lions Club from 1970 until 1986.
He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church since 1952 and was a retired elder of the church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Grace Geiger, a brother, Charles Donald Geiger and sister, Eunice Helen Lock.
He is survived by one son, William Mark Geiger; one granddaughter, Sherri Geiger Sears (Calvin, Jr.) and three great grandchildren, Jonathan T. Geiger, Calvin J. Sears and Evangeline M. Sears.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd St. with Pastor Charles S. Freeman officiating. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, Bronson, FL with military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
