William Lee Bowers' Obituary
William Lee Bowers, age 76, of Gainesville passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2014. He was born March 2, 1937, in Jacksonville, Fla.,to James Brown and Vivian Doris Martin Bowers.
After graduating from Marietta High School, Bill went on to receive a degree in aeronautical engineering from Georgia Tech in 1960.He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.
Retiring from a long career at Lockheed Martin gave Bill time to pursue his love of golf. He was a longtime member of the Gainesville Golf and Country Club, and a member of Wedgefield Golf and Country Club of Orlando. He also enjoyed fishing on the St. Johns River and caring for his dogs. He waskind and loving, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Bowers, and brothers, Gene and Martin Bowers.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann Howard Bowers of Gainesville; son, James Bowers (Stephanie) of Greenville, N.C.; daughter, Lee Bowers of Gainesville; three grandchildren, Nicole McIntosh (Ryan) of Orlando, Alexandria Avera and Danielle Avera, both of Gainesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
