William "Bill" F. Carter's Obituary
William “Bill” F. Carter, 94, of Gainesville, FL and Jacksonville, FL, died Tuesday, January 31, 2023, in Jacksonville, FL surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born November 16, 1928, in St. Louis, MO., to James Rufus and Mary Cecilia McTigue Carter. Bill was raised in Jacksonville, FL. He married the love of his life, Marlene, in 1954 and together they had four children of whom he was very proud. They moved to Gainesville, FL in 1971, and he joined the Howard Hall Agency as an insurance agent. He retired in 1997 as Senior Vice President. Bill was a past president of the Gainesville Association of Insurance Agents, the Gainesville Rotary Club, and Eastside Garden Club. He was also a past Captain of the Gainesville Quarterback Club, and a loyal Gator Fan. He served in the U.S. Navy. Bill was a man of faith and active member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church for many years. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law Linda Gammie Carter.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of over 68 years, Marlene Carter, and children, Mary (Carl) Bennett, Ann (Steve) Gilbert, William F. (Dianne) Carter, Jr., and Nancy Jo (Mike) Junk, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also surviving are extended family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 11am, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church 10900 SW 24th Ave., Gainesville, FL with Fr. Al Esposito as celebrant. Inurnment will follow the mass. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to Catholic Charities at catholiccharitiesgainesville.org.
