William "Bill" Gerald D'Amico's Obituary
William Gerald D’Amico, 65, longtime resident of Alachua, Florida, died Monday, April 11, 2016 in the North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mr. D’Amico was born in Palatka, Florida on February 19, 1951 to the late Henry D’Amico and Jean D’Amico. He moved with his family to Rockledge, Florida where he grew up, graduating from Cocoa High School, Class of 1969, where he was a member and Commander of the ROTC. He lived for a time in Virginia, before moving to Alachua in 1978, beginning a long career as a home builder and remodeler, owning and operating Bills Builders. His carpentry skills were put to the test when in the late 1970’s he built a 58’ sailing yacht.
Bills interests were many and varied; he loved hunting and fishing, playing the guitar, and all things involving the Florida Gators. He volunteered with Babe Ruth, coaching and as the stadium director for the Alachua Babe Ruth program, helping to bring the World Series to Alachua.
He will always be remembered for his smile and his upbeat personality and for the many lives that he touched.
Bill is survived by his wife of 41 years, Luanne TeSelle D’Amico; one son, Adam D’Amico, of Gainesville; his mother, Jean D’Amico, of Melbourne; mother-in-law, Grace TeSelle, of Gainesville; a brother, Larry (Linda) D’Amico, of North Carolina; two sisters, Paula (Steve) Kohler, of Kalamazoo, MI, and Kathy (Mark) Mathis, of Georgia; brother-in-law, Gary TeSelle of Gainesville and a sister-in-law, Ginny (Gene) Lowe, of Bedford, VA, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:00 A. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd St., with a reception to follow.
