William Marc Adkins' Obituary
William Marc Adkins, 68, died on the morning of October 4, 2025 in his chosen home city of Gainesville, FL. Marc was born in Ft Mitchell, KY on August 25,1957 to Dr. William and Evelyn Adkins. Marc was the oldest of six children, he was the big brother. The family settled in West Palm Beach when Marc was young. Marc enjoyed the outdoors…between swimming, sailing, being at the ocean, riding a motor bike, scuba diving, he enjoyed most anything adventurous. After graduating from high school, Marc enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he served honorably at Camp Lejeune as a paratrooper for 4 years. Immediately after being honorably discharged, Marc studied Civil Engineering at the University of Florida with an undergraduate and graduate degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in the area of water management at St. Johns River Water Management District until his retirement. While Marc lived in Keystone Heights on Lake Santa Fe, he became involved with the contra-dance group, The Gainesville Old-time Dance Society or as the abbreviations indicate, GODS. And this is where he found a wonderful group of friends for many years. Marc loved everything about Gainesville, truly calling this place home.
Marc is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Evelyn Adkins and his step-mother, Martha Adkins. He is survived by his father, William Adkins as well as his siblings and their families: Betsy Adkins Ingle (Skip, Lilia and Colette), Christy Adkins Robertson (Steve, Sara, Jordan, Jett, Allison, Rachel), Jeannie Adkins, Jack Adkins (Michalle, Johnny), Richard Adkins (Christine, Will, Nicholas) and Diane Headings (Lauren).
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service where we will honor Marc. The service will be held Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home 404 N Main St, Gainesville, FL 32601.
