Wiliani Tjahyono's Obituary
Wiliani Tjahyono passed away on August 2, 2024. She was born on the island of Java, Indonesia, on August 16, 1938, where she spent her childhood.
In 1960, she joined the convent, where she was given the name of Sister Wilibrorda. As a religious sister, she was a cook in the local seminary, seamstress, and financial record-keeper. Over the years, she kept in touch with the many priests and nuns that she met at that time.
She had to leave the convent for a time to care for her elderly grandmother and in 1998, she emigrated to the United States. She worked as a domestic caregiver in California and Florida. On Oct. 16, 2003, she became a US citizen.
After retirement, she helped keep up the altar for daily masses and sang in the choir at St. Patrick Church in Gainesville. Wili was a member of the over-50 Club, the Council of Catholic Women, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and other groups at St. Patrick's.
She is survived by one brother, Edy Tjahyono of California, a sister in Switzerland, sisters in Jakarta, and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church on August 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m, Visitation will be one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. There will be a reception immediately following the Mass.
