Wesley George Barbour of Gainesville, FL passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Gainesville, FL. He was born on December 19, 1942, in New Britain, Connecticut, to George W. and Linnea Norman Barbour.
Wesley dedicated over 40 years of his life to his work as an electrical and mechanical engineer. He was the proud owner of Central Florida Elevator, where his expertise, ingenuity, and strong work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
He was married to the love of his life, Barbara A. Barbour, with whom he shared nearly 60 years of marriage. Their enduring partnership was a testament to love, commitment, and devotion.
Wesley had a brilliant and curious mind, always accompanied by a pen, paper, and often a flashlight—ready to capture ideas or solve problems at any moment. In his younger years and early in his marriage, he wrote jokes that were published, showcasing his wit and creativity. Throughout his life, he enjoyed writing “how-to” guides and instructions, reflecting his passion for sharing knowledge and helping others accomplish tasks.
He found great joy in surf fishing and hunting, and he will be remembered for his intelligence, creativity, and the quiet ways he made life better for those around him through his humor.
A Celebration of Wesley’s life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Williams-Thomas Westarea Funeral Home. 823 NW 143rd S. Newberry, FL 32669, with reception to follow.
