Walton Edwin Smith's Obituary
Walton Edwin Smith passed away at home peacefully on December 9th. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 10th, 1930 to Ruth Lucille Flowe and Bishop Frank Smith. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Engineering and worked for the Chemical Division of the FMC Corporation in Cincinnati, Ohio. Later he began a business in home construction in Atlanta. As he neared retirement he became a sales representative for Sir Speedy Printed Communications.
Walton and his wife Virginia retired to Melrose, FL in 2000. They bought a 100 year old house which he enjoyed restoring. He volunteered at the Melrose Bay Gallery and Museum of Natural History Butterfly Rainforest. During this time he was Treasurer of the Melrose Fire Department and Historic Melrose. Walton enjoyed photography, roaming beaches for sea glass, hiking, biking and camping. He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife Virginia, and his three children, Catherine Smith, son Eddie (Elizabeth), son Hugh (Traci) and grandchildren Sam, Lily, Maizie and Perrin.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, December 19th at 2:00pm with Father Tony Powell officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent in his name to Roberts Hospice Care Center, 6400 St. Johns Ave. Palatka, FL 32177 or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
