W. Ruth Hammond Battles' Obituary
W. Ruth “Hammond” Battles was born August 14, 1940 in Blossburg, PA to William Wise and Ruth Moshier Hammond and died September 20, 2014 in Gainesville, FL, after a 9 month battle with lung cancer.
Ruth was formerly of Hawthorne, FL where she was co-owner of J&R Farm Nursery. She retired from Palm Chevrolet. Ruth loved to crochet and to travel to the mountains in Georgia.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, John Troy Battles and her great grandson, Donovan Thomas Redding. She is survived by daughters, Troyanne Battles of Gainesville, FL, Marci-Jo (Gerald) Mishoe of Summerville, SC, DeLayne (Tommy) Redding of Hawthorne, FL, Katherine (Mike) LaRochelle of Jacksonville, FL and Sherry (Bob) Mealman of Emporia, KS and son, Donald (Lynda) Battles of Callahan, FL; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street, on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Michael Williams officiating. Interment will be private in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 23, 2014, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
