Virginia Esther Lawrence's Obituary
Mrs. Virginia Esther Lawrence went home to Jesus our Lord and Savior November 15, 2017. She was one of three children born to The Late Bernice S. Hicks and Laurence H. Johnson. She is survived by her loving husband, Rev. Stephen O. Lawrence; son, Darnell R. Lawrence (& wife Eileen); two grandchildren, Lisa M. (husband Gary) and Leslie M. Lawrence, two great-grandchildren, Jordan C. Yates and Nicole L. Yates. She leaves behind one sister-in-law, Mrs. Sunny Johnson and one niece, Donna Waymon, and a host of cousins and friends who will miss her dearly and her passing with break a four-generation lineage.
She received her formal education in Philadelphia, PA Public Schools System. Mrs. Lawrence resided in Philadelphia, PA until the moved to Laurel, Mississippi with her husband, Rev. Stephen O. Lawrence, where they both became Missionaries in 1967.
After spending time spreading the gospel in several cities they decided to settle in Gainesville, Florida in 1975, and continued spreading the Word and love of the Lord.
Mrs. Lawrence and Rev. Lawrence are both Co-founders of the Gainesville Baptist Church, founded in 1978.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held Friday, December 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Gainesville Baptist Church, 3570 NW 16th Blvd, with Pastor Brad Noble officiating. Burial will follow in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL, at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 N Main Street
