Vijayalakshmi Chandrasekaran's Obituary
Vijayalakshmi Chandrasekaran 1939-2024
Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Chandrasekaran, age 84 unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at home. She leaves behind her loving family including son Dr. Chandra Nataraj, daughter-in-law, Dr. Uma Iyer, daughter Thangam, son-in-law Yesh Subramanian and grandchildren Akshaya, Akhila, Avinash, Arjun and Abirami.
Born and raised in South India, Vijayalakshmi, known as Vijaya by her close friends and family, got her bachelor’s degree in economics and also earned a master’s degree in music. She married Mr. Chandrasekaran in 1960 and was a busy housewife and home maker in India, Malaysia and the US. Since 2017, she and her husband made Gainesville their home where she enjoyed gardening, music and watching her grandchildren’s music and sport related activities. She found a second home in Gainesville and relished being part of this community.
Vijaya was universally loved by friends and family both in Gainesville and elsewhere. She was always remembered for her smile and warmth by those who met her. After her husband’s passing in 2019, Vijaya diligently continued her husband’s tradition of never forgetting a birthday or anniversary regardless of where someone was in the world. She loved flowers, animals, music, her daily word puzzles in the newspaper, and sneaking treats to the cats. We were fortunate to share and learn from her insights in patience and unconditional love for all living things. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends here and in India.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 10am-12noon in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME, 404 N Main Street, Gainesville, FL 32601.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alachua County Humane Society, 4206 NW 6th Street Gainesville, FL 32609 (https://www.humanesocietyncfl.org/donate/).
