Vernon Cecil Swilley's Obituary
Mr. Vernon Cecil Swilley, 74, lifelong resident of Alachua, Florida, died Thursday, October 25, 2018 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Swilley was born on August 7, 1944 in the community of Bland, Florida, to the late Eli Shelton and Bertha Ora Swilley, He attended Santa Fe High School, and then joined the U. S. Army. After the Army, Mr. Swilley worked for many years as a long haul trucker, and then began a career as an L. P Gas technician, working for Griffis Gas and later Sawyer Gas. He enjoyed tinkering on things, he was a handyman who could fix anything, and especially enjoyed working with his tractors. Mr. Swilley was a member of the High Spring Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Beryl Swilley and Ernest Swilley.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Connie Swilley; seven children, Jeff Swilley, of Newberry, Tori (Jeff) Roxby, of New Port Richey, Nancy Swilley, of Alachua, Scott (Joni) Dunn, of St. Johns, Sheri Sheehan, of Hawthorne, and Samantha Swilley and Tonya Lynn Swilley, both of Texas; a brother Gene (Jimmie) Swilley, of Alachua; a sister-in-law, Margaret Swilley, of Alachua. Nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 2:00 P. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd Street, Newberry. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the High Springs Seventh Day Adventist Church, Building/Maintenance Fund, 23874 W US 27, High Springs, FL 32643.
