Vera S. Mauldin's Obituary
Vera S. Mauldin, 85, longtime resident of Waldo, Florida, died Saturday, September 23, 2023, at her home, following a long illness.
Mrs. Mauldin was born in Doerun, Georgia on May 15, 1938, to the late Dykes and Hassie Smith, she was a graduate of Doerun High School and received her Masters degree in education from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. Mrs. Mauldin was an educator for over 38 years, first in Georgia and then in Alachua County, Florida. She enjoyed sewing, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waldo, and was the past president of the Waldo Historical Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Clyde Mauldin, Jr. in 2008 and by four brothers, Dykes Smith, Jr., Dr. Reuben Smith, Dr. Darius Smith and Daniel Smith.
She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Harrison, of Mt. Dora, FL; two sons, Keith Mauldin, of Waldo and Kevin Mauldin, of Mt. Dora, FL; her three sisters, Ruth Bailey, of Athens, GA, Dois Rogers and Ann Smith, both of Rome, GA; four brothers, Jerry Smith and Andrew Smith, both of Greenville, SC, Dr. Amos Smith, of Graniteville, SC and Dr. Leon Smith, of Athens, GA. Six grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 10:00 A. M., in the First Baptist Church of Waldo, 14370 FL-24, Waldo, with Rev. Jim DuBois, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Orange Hill Cemetery, Williston, Florida.
