Turney Reed Ellis' Obituary
Reed Ellis, age 70 of Hawthorne, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 in Shands UF Hospital. Reed was born November 12, 1944 in Ocala, Florida to Charles J. and Alice Mae Reed Ellis. He was retired from the University of Florida Graduate School where he worked as an editor, after teaching English for 17 years at St. Johns River Community College in Palatka. Reed enjoyed reading and sports, especially basketball, and his cats and dog, Spike.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie Ellis; brother, Tommy Ellis (Jill) of Citra, FL; sisters-in-law, Wendy Jowers and Pam Schellinger; nephews, Daniel and Jeremy (Elizabeth) Ellis; grandnephews, Jacob and Jonathon and grandniece, Caitlyn.
A Celebration of Reed’s Life will be held Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME HAWTHORNE, US 301 South at Lake Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alachua County Humane Society, 4205 NW 6th Street, Gainesville, FL 32609.
