Troy Leo Whitfield Sr.'s Obituary
Troy Leo Whitfield Sr., age 85, of Gainesville passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020. He was born on October 15, 1934, in Hanna, Oklahoma to Lindsey Luthor and Myrtle Marie Whitfield.
Troy was a US Army veteran and served in the Korean War era. He later worked in the research field for the USDA in the Etymology Department. In 1966, he moved to Gainesville, Florida while working for the USDA. He later retired in 1990. He was an avid HAM radio operator, with the call number W4JXT.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Van Allen, and brothers, Bob and David Whitfield.
He is survived by his wife, Leota Marie McDaniel Whitfield, daughter, Sherry Yvonne Smith, son, Troy Whitfield Jr., brother, Jesse Earl Whitfield; sisters, Evelyn Jean McHaney, Linda Rodriguez and Gwenda Bain; and grandchildren, William Chad Seabolt and Lisa Diane Seabolt.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at 1:00 PM at the Williams-Thomas Westarea Chapel, 823 NW 143rd St, Newberry, Fl 32669. Burial will follow at Forest Meadows West.
