Thurston L. Brooks, Jr's Obituary
Thurston L. “Buck” Brooks, Jr., age 91 of Gainesville passed away Friday, March 24, 2017. He was born February 10, 1926 in St. Augustine, Florida to Thurston L. and Doris Poole Brooks, Sr. Buck, proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Army as a radio operator in the Philippines. Buck enjoyed photography. He loved Bar B Queing, NASCAR, sharing martinis with friends, traveling with his wife Ann and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Buck was very devoted to his family and his faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Lois Ann Brooks.
He is survived by his children, Lynn Mathis (Richard), Thurston “Skip” Brooks, III (Mudah), Robert “Bob” Brooks (Peggy), Thomas “Tom” Brooks (Katie) and Mary Poovey; sister, Carole McCoy; 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Buck’s Life will be held Monday, April 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., in Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, 9700 West Newberry Road, with Rev. Alan Struckmeyer, Rev. John David Bryant and Rev. Mike Lazano officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 2, 2017, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with military honors. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, St. Labre Indian School in Montana or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
