Thomas J. Richards Sr.'s Obituary
Thomas J. Richards Sr., age 91 of Gainesville, FL passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014. He was born January 13, 1922 in Callaway, Virginia to Thomas Jefferson and Mary Lee Mason Richards.
He proudly served his country during WWII and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Mr. Richards retired after 32 years of service at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. He loved his wife and family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Jane Richards, brother, Everette A. Richards and sister, Virginia I. Wilkie.
He is survived by sons, Thomas J. Richards Jr. of Salem, OR; George E. Richards and Michael W. Richards both of Interlachen, FL; daughters, Mary Chambers of Hampton, VA; Edna M. Woodard of Gloucester, VA; Patricia R. Collins of Micanopy, FL and Rosella M. Hamm of Gainesville, FL; 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the Village chapel with Chaplain Kathy Hodges officiating. Inurnment will follow at Countryside Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 N.W. 143rd Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016 or the American Heart Association, 3324 West University Avenue #128, Gainesville, FL 32607.
