Thomas Allan Pilling's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Thomas Allen Pilling February 26, 1950 – March 30, 2025
Tom Pilling, deeply loved husband, father, father-in-law, and pillar of his community, passed away on March 30, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, on February 26, 1950, Tom lived a life of service, wisdom, and quiet strength. After graduating from Terry Parker High School, in Jacksonville, Florida, he enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve, proudly serving as a Radioman. His time in the Navy instilled in him a lifelong love of service and duty — as evidenced by his honorable discharge to come home and take care of his family after the passing of his father.
Following his service, Tom pursued his calling to ministry, earning a degree in music & religious education and becoming an ordained minister. He served faithfully in several congregations throughout the Southeast, offering steadfast comfort and spiritual leadership to all who crossed his path. His guidance, filled with compassion and insight, touched the hearts of all who met him and left a lasting legacy of faith and kindness.
In addition to his work in ministry, Tom was also a devoted educator, teaching high school english and literature for almost two decades. Known as “Mr. P.” in the classroom, he was admired for his patience, dry and silly humor, and unwavering belief in the potential of every single student. His passion for learning and storytelling inspired generations of young minds.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Donna Pilling; his daughter and son-in-law, Jamie & Jesse Howard; his sister, Marsha Desaro, and an enormous circle of extended family and friends.
He will be remembered not only for his many accomplishments, but for his deep integrity, his gentle humor, his quiet strength, his ever-growing ministry through music, and his unwavering faith in both God and humanity.
A memorial service will be held at Park of the Palms Church (753 Hebron Avenue, Keystone Heights, FL 32656) on Saturday, April 19, at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch in the dining hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either of the following:
