Thomas “Tom” Patrick Greenan Jr.
On the morning of January 29, 2016, Tom passed away peacefully at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, FL after fighting a long battle with cancer. He was 74 years old.
Tom was born in Camden, NJ on December 8, 1941 to Thomas Patrick Sr. and Anna Pointkowski. He was the youngest of three children (Claire Battaglia and Patricia Greenan).
Tom graduated from Bay County High in Panama City FL in 1959 and went to Eckels College of Mortuary Science. He practiced as a funeral director and later went back to school to become an ER nurse. He met the love of his life, Mary Louise McIntosh, while at mortuary school and was married for 43 years. They had three children, Kelly George (Tom), Tommy, and Michael (Keri). He had four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and participated in the Knights of Columbus as a charter member and was the district director of the Florida Funeral Directors Association. After receiving his nursing degree, he became the president of the local and state chapters of the Emergency Nursing Association.
After retiring from Alachua General Hospital in 2001 he spent his time trying to perfect his golf game with friends. He was an avid fan of Gator football and a longtime member of the Touchdown Club. You could always find him in gator attire.
The family will receive friends on February 1, 2016 from 5 to 7 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:30 at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main St. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Gainesville, FL on February 2, 2016 at 11:00 AM followed by a burial service at High Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd. Gainesville, Fl 32606 or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 500 NE 16th Ave. Gainesville, FL 32601
