Theresa Genevieve Cox's Obituary
Theresa Genevieve Cox, 92, of Bronson, passed away on May 31, 2024, after an extended illness at her home.
Theresa was born in Washington D.C. on June 26, 1931, to Murray and Genevieve Thorne of Maryland.
Theresa met Bernard Cox Sr. when he came to her parents’ house to fix their refrigerator and she knew him and his family through church. They were married on October 8th, 1949, and enjoyed 33 years together. Theresa and Bernard were blessed with eight children: Theresa, Bernadette, Bernard Jr., Sharon, Warren, Paul, Cecilia, and Michael.
Theresa was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a housewife and caregiver.
She became a grandmother to Linda (Lester), Andrea, Anthony (Niki), Danielle, Stacey, Aaron, Bernard III (Candice), and Theresa (Brian).
She later became a great grandmother to Helen, Daniel, Nycole, Sean, Gabriel, Austin, Morgan, Cecilia, Kelcie, Kaitlyn, Jayla, Rebecca, Kristy, Ryleigh, Jayden, Bernard IV, Hayden, Elijah, and Rachel.
She is also a great, great grandmother to Everleigh and Emberlyn.
Theresa and Bernard moved to Bronson, Florida in August of 1979 and joined Holy Family Catholic Church in Williston, Florida.
During her lifetime in Bronson, Florida she was very active and devoted in several ministries at Holy Family Catholic Church. The ministries she was most involved in were the Ladies Guild (served as officer twice), Parish Council member, Bereavement Committee, Widow and Widowers group (now known as Compassion and Hope Ministry). One of the most dedicated members of the church, she was honored to be commissioned to become an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. Which included bringing the Blessed Sacrament to the homebound as well as Catholic patients in the nursing home.
Theresa was active in several parish events such as the Parish Carnival, Chinese Auction, Bingo concession stand (often making baked goods to sell), Bake Sales, Potluck dinners, Angel House thrift store, Mary’s Garden, and outdoor Stations of the Cross just to name a few. She was also the hostess (usually Hors d’oeuvers) of the progressive rosary.
Theresa would often give of her time to take fellow parishioners to church services, doctor appointments, and grocery shopping.
She loved to bake, sew, cross stitch, crochet, play card games, and complete word search puzzles.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents Murray and Genevieve Thorne, her siblings George Thorne, Murray Thorne, Adele Bowman, and Lawrence Thorne, her husband Bernard Cox Sr., daughters Bernadette Cox, Cecilia Cox, Theresa Cox, and son Warren Cox.
She is survived by Bernard Jr (Linda) Cox, Sharon Hoff, daughter in law Lydia (Warren) Cox, Paul (Patty) Cox, and Michael (Monica) Cox.
The funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Williston, Florida on June 15, 2024, at 12:30 p.m., officiated by Father John Gillespie.
The burial service will be held at St Ignatius Church, Fort Washington/Oxon Hill, Maryland on June 26, 2024, at 2:30 p.m., officiated by Father Christopher Woodall.
In lieu of flowers, Theresa requested donations be made to the Compassion and Hope Ministry of Holy Family Catholic Church and Haven Hospice of Chiefland.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Haven Hospice and the dedicated staff (Nancy, Melissa and Keri) that provided care, compassion, and support while Theresa was home.
