Theodore J. Rosov, DDS's Obituary
Theodore J. Rosov, DDS, One of the last of a dying breed, the true renaissance man, Ted Rosov was both a man of science and art. He passed away August 21, 2024 after a relatively short illness.
Theodore J. Rosov was born December 26, 1933 in Brooklyn NY to Joseph Rosov and Frances S. Rosov. Raised in Queens, NY (Forest Hills, Rego Park), he attended PS 139 before being admitted to the New York High School of Music and Art as a music major, specializing in the saxophone and clarinet. He went on to graduate from Queens College with a degree in biochemistry and participated in track and field and cross country lettering in both. He was later accepted to Columbia University College of Dentistry and graduated in 1959.
After graduation he interned at the East Orange VA Hospital and entered the Army as a Captain in the dental corps. He served two years as the dental surgeon at Fort Slocum in Long Island Sound off the coast of New Rochelle NY. Upon discharge from active duty, Dr. Rosov opened a practice in general dentistry in West Palm Beach, FL. He retired in 2007 and relocated with his wife Joan Cullman-Rosov to Gainesville, Florida.
While a practicing dentist, he played the saxophone and clarinet in three symphonic bands: the Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches, the Palm Beach Gardens Concert Band, where he was a charter member, and the Royal Palm Beach Concert Band. He performed in more than 500 concerts including some seasonal performances with the Association of Concert Bands in Sarasota, Gainesville and Allentown, PA.
Dr. Rosov was a long-term member of Temple Beth-El in WPB and served on the Board of Guarantors. He was President of the local B’nai Brith, President of the American Jewish Committee and President of the President’s Council of Non-Profit Organizations. He was Vice-President of the local Jaycees in the early 1960s. Dr. Rosov also served as a forensic dentist (associate medical examiner for Palm Beach County) for 10 years and participated in identifying numerous victims while also appearing as an expert witness in Court.
Ted was a trivia buff and watched nearly every Jeopardy episode beginning with the program’s inception. He and his family enjoyed snow skiing in various locations throughout the US and was an avid photographer, accumulating thousands of photographs and negatives long before the advent of the cell phone made that an easy task.
He was predeceased by his wife Joan in 2016. He is survived by his daughter Tamara Rosov and her husband David Shapiro, sister-in-law Marilyn Rosov and her children, 1st cousin Perry & Robin Sandler, and his cousins by marriage, Christy & Richard Kreinest and their extensive family. He will be missed by all.
A Funeral Service will be held Sunday, August 25, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Temple Shir Shalom, with Rabbi Michael Joseph officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Meadows Central Cemetery 4100 NW 39th Avenue.
