Thelma "Terry" Kettering's Obituary
Thelma "Terry" (Whitehead) Lloyd Kettering, was born at her grandparent's home in Vestal, NY, on May 23, 1926, to the late Myrtle (Drum) Whitehead and the late Clarence “Cappy” Whitehead. Terry (as she much preferred to be called) passed away five days shy of her 92nd birthday on May 18, 2018 at her residence in Gainesville, Florida. She spent her early years as a legal secretary in Binghamton, NY and later in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. More recently she enjoyed dancing with her long-time instructor, dance partner and friend, Stanley Ulrich, and together were a popular feature at Ft. Lauderdale area dance exhibitions.
She was the beloved wife of the late J.D. “Jerry” Kettering; was the widow of the late John U. Lloyd (namesake of the former John U. Lloyd State Park in Dania). She was preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Louatia Dennis and her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Bowman Lloyd. Terry is survived by her sons, Rev. Randall N. Bell (Donna) of Attica, NY, Jeff Lloyd (Ann) of Gainesville, FL, and Lee J. Lloyd (Dori) of Micanopy, FL; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 1 precious great-great-grandchild; as well as 3 step-daughters, step-grandchildren, and step- great grandchildren.
She was a member of New Presbyterian Church of Wilton Manors, FL. Friends and family are welcome to attend the memorial service, officiated by her son, Rev. Randall Bell, on Saturday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home, 4061 N Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale.
