Sue Carol Mattner Briles' Obituary
Sue Carol Mattner Briles, 86, wife of Joel McKenneth Briles late of Gainesville, Florida passed away Friday, June 14, 2024. She was born April 8, 1938, in Michigan City Indiana to Alfred Leonard and Florence Marbieter Mattner.
Sue was heavily involved in the raising of her 3 girls, taking them to swim practices and meets; golf lessons, amateur and professional golf tournaments; dance lessons and recitals; and any other activity they were involved.
In Sue's spare time she was a model at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL as well as Carson Pirie, and Scott Department Store in Peoria, IL. She volunteered her time at St Paul's Episcopal Cathedral Church in the former Diocese of Quincy; Salvation Army Women's Auxillary; Methodist Hospital (now Carle Methodist) Service League; and Junior League of Peoria. She was also an avid Bridge player.
Sue was a member of Country Club of Peoria, Fiddlesticks Country Club in Ft Myers, FL; Hawkstone Country Club in Gainesville, FL; alum initiate of Sigma Kappa Sorority at Purdue University, and the National Society Descendants of American Farmers a lineage society providing scholarships to Agriculture Students.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Briles of Gainesville, FL; Jill Briles-Hinton of Richmond, VA; Jody Jacobs of Carmel, IN; grandchildren Bert Hinton, Mac Jacobs, Mary Jacobs and Trinity Briles-Grafft; sisters Sandra Jenkins of St. Joseph, MI and Linda Ferrara of West Warwick, RI.; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joel McKenneth Briles; siblings Betty Jean Popke, Kenneth Bernard Mattner, and Marilyn Joyce Kitron.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church 100 N.E. 1st Street Gainesville, FL. with Reverand Arthur Lee officiating. Photo credit Janette Bradley Smith.
