Stonewall Lane (Stoney) Evans' Obituary
Stonewall Lane (Stoney) Evans passed away on May 1, 2024, at his home in Gainesville, Florida at the age of 81. He was born on September 16, 1942, to William Lee and Leta Ruth Pollard Evans at Alachua General Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
At age 20, Stoney married his wife, Sharon Ann Strickland Evans. They were married for 61 beautiful years. He is survived by his wife; his son, Philip Evans (Lori); his daughter, Amy Evans Gilbert (Mark); and nine grandchildren, Bryan Evans, Bradley Evans, Brooke Evans, William Gilbert (Ina), Audrey Gilbert, Edward Gilbert, Sarah Gilbert, Olivia Evans and Jack Evans, all of whom knew him as their “Papa.”
Stoney was a mechanic for close to 40 years, working at various car dealerships in Gainesville. He found a home at the Mercedes Benz dealership, becoming a shop staple until he retired in 2003. Stoney re-committed his life to Christ in 2004 and was baptized in front of his family. He enjoyed Gator baseball, hunting, fishing, old Western movies and, above all, his family. Everyone who knew him knew how much he enjoyed teasing the ones he loved, never falling short of a witty remark.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 10:00 am at Williams-Thomas Westarea 823 N.W. 143 St. Newberry, FL. Following the service, there will be a gathering for family and friends. Food and drinks will be provided and lively stories of Stoney will be exchanged.
