Stanley Irwin McCandless' Obituary
Stanley Irwin McCandless, age 72 of Gainesville, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2014 in the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center. He was born October 27, 1941 in Knob Lick, Kentucky to Ralph and Bernice Irwin McCandless. Mr. McCandless proudly served his country in the United States Army. Later, he was employed as a carpenter with MM Parrish Construction Company. In his free time, he loved fishing, camping, traveling and playing cards. He was an avid Gator football fan and avid Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan and was a member of Kanapaha Presbyterian Church.
Mr. McCandless is survived by his wife, Kay Davis McCandless; daughter, Tammy McCandless of Gainesville; step-daughter, Jill Messick (Dan) of Sarasota; step-sons, David Jamerson (Beth) of Bronson and Grover Jamerson of Gainesville; siblings, Shirley Crawford (Wallace), Renetta McCandless, Roger McCandless (Shirley) and Rex McCandless, all of Kentucky; 4 grandchildren, Ashley Wilson, Amanda Messick Brown, D.J. Messick and William Powell and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by brothers, Mitchell, Tony and David McCandless.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street, with Rev. Dawn M. Conti officiating. Interment will follow in McIntosh Cemetery, NW 210th Street, McIntosh. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
