Dr. Spas Smilov's Obituary
Dr. Spas Smilov passed away peacefully on August 4, 2015 at Haven Hospice in Gainesville. He was born on Nov. 26, 1925, in Vratza, Bulgaria. Dr. Smilov went to Medical School in the Czech Republic and practiced for 40 years as an ENT physician in Bulgaria. Dr. Smilov was dedicated to his profession and was respected and loved by his patients and his community. His Bulgarian patients referred to him as The Doctor because of his generosity and care. In 2009, he moved with his wife to the United States, to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
Dr. Smilov is survived by his wife of 55 years, Petrina, his two sons, Anton and Marin, his daughters-in-law, Linda and Arlene, and his grandchildren, Ryan, his wife Gina, Kristen, Sienna, Kamryn and Aubrey. His family and friends will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 7, at 6:30 pm at the WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA in Jonesville. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth’s Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow in Countryside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd. Gainesville, FL 32606, or St. Elizabeth Greek Orthodox Church, 5129 NW 53rd Avenue Gainesville, FL 32653.
