Sotero J. "Raul" Ibaceta's Obituary
Sotero J. "Raul" Ibaceta, age 92 of Gainesville, FL passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019. He was born December 10, 1926 in Madruga, Havana, Cuba to Juan Ibaceta and Hortensia Del Aguila de Ibaceta.
He fled communist Cuba to find freedom for his family in 1964 and loved the United States deeply. He traveled the world and loved baseball. He was a philanthropist, always giving to charities.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Herminia "Dinorah" Ibaceta; daughter, Millie Rodriguez and her husband Dr. Osvaldo Rodriguez Jr.; brother-in-law, Damian E. Arzola; nephew Marco A. Valera, his wife, Kathleen and their daughter Devon; three beloved grandchildren, Rebecca, Christina, and Benjamin and also Amanda Nieves and Christopher Tomlins, who were like grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Haydee M. Valera.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 1, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 10900 SW 24th Ave, Gainesville with Rev. Fr. Marialal Joseph as celebrant. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
