Sita K. Rao's Obituary
Sita K. Rao, age 91, of Gainesville passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017. She was born April 20, 1926 in Ramachandrapuram, Andhra Pradesh India.
Mrs. Rao was married to Dr. Koppaka Visweswara Rao in 1943. In 1956, she immigrated to the United States to join her husband, a chemist working for Pfizer, Inc. in New Jersey. Together, they had 3 children. The family moved to Gainesville, Florida in 1969 when Dr. Rao joined the faculty of the University of Florida.
Mrs. Rao was a homemaker and she enjoyed following politics, listening to Indian classical music and visiting with her many American and Indian friends. She also served as a surrogate parent to many graduate students and young couples who came to Gainesville from India.
Mrs. Rao’s husband died in 1998. She is survived by her 2 daughters (Vijaya K. Rao and Jaya K. Rao), a son, (Ram Koppaka), and a grandson, Nikhil Koppaka.
A private funeral service will be performed on November 20, 2017. The family will receive friends and visitors at their home on November 20, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm. A more formal memorial service celebrating her amazing life is planned for January.
