Shirley K. Martin's Obituary
Shirley K. Martin, 89, of Gainesville, Florida, died Thursday, August 31, 2017 in the HarborChase Assisted Living Facility, following a long illness.
Mrs. Martin was born on October 12, 1927 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late John Kirby and Florence Krause. She lived most of her adult life in Jacksonville, Florida, enjoying a long career with Southern Bell for almost 40 years. Mrs. Martin had a number of interests, gardening, fishing, golfing, painting and RV traveling, seeing much of the U. S. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Mr. Oliver Mathews and by a second husband, Robert T. Martin. She lived for many years in Alachua, before moving to The Atrium. Mrs. Martin was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Armstrong.
She is survived by a sister, Wanda K. (Henry, Sr.) Gallops of Alachua; niece, Debbie Slinger; nephews, Hank Gallops, Jimmy Armstrong, and Dennis Armstrong; her step-children, Tawnda M. Schroeder, Pamela M. Noe, Coral M. Reid and William R. Martin, along with several step-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Friday, September 8, 2017 at 6:00 P. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd Street. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
