Shirley Kay Winders' Obituary
Mrs. Shirley Kay Winders, 71, resident of Hawthorne, Florida, passed peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2023, in the North Florida Medical Center, following a long illness.
Kay was born on July 19, 1951, in Miami, Florida to the late Joseph and Marjorie Bishop. She raised her family there, working as a medical billing specialist, until moving to Hawthorne in 1994. Mrs. Winders continued working in healthcare for the Orthopedic Institute, before retiring in 2018. She enjoyed cruising all over the Caribbean and Europe with her family and was a longtime member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Hawthorne.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Thomas Franklin Winders; by two daughters, Shannon (Joseph) Barbato and Michelle (James) Gray; one son, Frankie (Sheri) Winders; by a sister, Elaine O’Brien and by her nine grandchildren, Kierstyn, George, Tylar, Drake, Lauren, Cameron, Eva, Reese, and Thomas.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 2:00 P. M., at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Hawthorne, FL, 7919 US-301 Hawthorne, FL 32640 with Fr. Edward Murphy, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Forest Meadows Memorial Park East, 3700 SE Hawthorne Rd, Gainesville, FL 32641. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 3, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 P. M., at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Hawthorne, 301 South at Lake Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the American Cancer Society.
