Sherry Lee Holloway's Obituary
Sherry Lee Holloway, long-time resident of Gainesville, Florida, has left this Earth and is now in God’s loving arms. She passed peacefully on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at age 80. She was born September 14, 1938 in Bakersfield, California to Blaine Eugene and Jewell Samanthia Lindsey Eller. As a teenager, she lived in Argentina for a short time while her father worked for Industrias Kaiser Argentina, an automotive manufacturing company. She graduated from Canoga Park High School in 1956 and attended college at Texas Tech. She started her career with the Peninsula Motor Car Company in Daytona Beach, Florida and married Andrew Hall Holloway, Jr. in 1964. The Holloways moved to Gainesville in 1967 and Sherry continued her career with AAA Auto Club South moving up in the ranks from triptiks, to insurance, then travel, following that as Assistant Manager and ending her 30+ years with AAA as the first female Division Manager. Sherry was a civic-minded individual and actively involved in the Gainesville community through the Business & Professional Women’s Clubs, Altrusa Club, Pilot Club of Gainesville, GAIN Network, Gainesville Woman’s Club, Jasmine Circle of the Gainesville Garden Club, Ronald McDonald House of Gainesville, a volunteer mentor with Take Stock in Children of Alachua County, she served several terms on the Villages of West End Board of Directors, and was a docent at the Haile Homestead. She also volunteered with the Sunset Civitan Club in South Daytona with her closest long-time friends Ethel and Ted Zoller. Mrs. Holloway was a world traveler, having visited many countries and most continents in her lifetime. She was raised Methodist and followed the Presbyterian faith for the remainder of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Hall Holloway, Jr. She is survived by her children, Kenneth B. (Mary E.) Garvin, Stacey L. (Robert W.) Copenhaver of Gainesville, Florida, Andrew H. Holloway, III of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, and Charles L. Holloway of Ft. Myers, Florida; her grandchildren, Stephanie Marie and Blaine Thomas Garvin, Asa Thomas Copenhaver, and Alyse Ann Carroll; and her great-grandchildren, Morgan Della Walker, Micah Thomas Copenhaver, and Aiden Spencer Carroll.
