Selden Longley, III, M.D., passed away on March 3, 2022, at his home in Gainesville, FL. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anne; their two sons, Selden (Dollene) and David (Hillary), along with his four grandchildren; Ann Ma Read Obituary
I had the pleasure to work with Selden in practice before he retired at SIMEDHealth since we shared patients in referral to his practice in rheumatology. I didn't get to know him well in this situation, but was able to feel like I knew him personally by hearing all the positive remarks my patients provided when they would come back from seeing him in consultation. A few years ago, I was able to understand their experiences better as I began dealing directly with him when we worked together on research at SIMEDHealth. I was impressed by his character, charisma and how he always made the staff feel important and part of the team. He was always professional even in difficult situations. His memory will live on in the lives of the numerous physicians and patients he impacted in his impressive career.

Seldon and I were classmates at Hillsboro High School in Nashville. He was always a very nice, well respected person. Vandy Boys would have loved having him on the sidelines again. Wonderful memories. Much love and many prayers to Ann and the family.

My thoughts and prayers are for you. I worked with Dr. Longley as a young hand therapist at Shands in Orthopaedics. We developed a rapport and he was a true physician and teacher. I sent patients to him in private practice. What a fine gentleman and a gift to our community. He was appreciated and will be missed by many.

I was sad to see we lost one of the finest human beings and compassionate physician. I worked for him for a few years he was always kind and calm. He had a great sense of humor I can just see him laughing he would roar when he heard something funny. Selden was a great fast friend of my brothers, and I was lucky enough to enjoy being included in their camaraderie, for a very short span of time, for many years growing up in Nashville. He and Anne were the first of the “gaggle of friends” to become engaged and subsequently marry so I thought that was just the ultimate! Their steadfast love and friendship for my brothers encircled our whole family. His memory will live on in innumerable ways. May God bless his family and offer strength for comfort. Selden was a true Southern gentleman.
