Born in Chicago Heights April 4, 1928, Sara graduated from Carleton College with a dual degree in Philosophy and Art History before marrying Dr Stanley Werner in 1949. The young couple moved around and eventually settled in Aurora, IL with their three children, Ruth, Mark and Carol. There Sara studied painting with Ruth Ford. In 1968 the family moved to Washington DC and lived in the area until 1990, when Sara and Stanley moved to Sarasota, Florida.
No matter where she lived Sara lived an active social life, making friends, being a friend and enjoying life. Her ease in every social situation made her an extremely popular member of every community of which she was a part. A great cook and hostess, Sara enjoyed having her grown children and grandchildren around her for as many holidays as could be arranged, where she could preside in a low-key and seemingly effortless manner. A birder, tennis player, swimmer and Bridge player, she made new friends all her life.
Sara was curious about the world, curious about other people. She and Stanley traveled widely, enjoyed good food and often went to the theater, concerts and lectures.
Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley G Werner and her daughter Ruth Ellen Werner. She is survived by her son Dr. Mark Werner and his wife, Dr Yana Banks, their two sons, Adam and Isaac, as well as her daughter Carol LeMaitre and her husband Joe Cunningham and their sons Jules and Dorian.
