Mr. Samuel Charles Ullman's Obituary
Mr. Samuel Charles Ullman, 74, resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Sunday, March 11, 2018 at his home.
Mr. Ullman was born in Washington, D. C., on December 29, 1943 to the late Joseph and Thelma Ullman. He graduated from the University of Florida, in 1965 and then from the U. F. College of Law in 1967. He clerked for the U. S. Tax Court in Washington, D. C. in 1967, before moving to Miami, Florida to begin a long career in law. He worked for several firms, including Kelley, Drye and Warren; Smathers & Thompson and Bilzin Sumberg. Mr. Ullman received his LLM in taxation from the University of Miami School of Law in 1975. He served as the chairman of the Florida Bar Tax Section in 1977, in which he remained active throughout his life.
Mr. Ullman was a lifelong Gator fan, returning to Gainesville in 2009, where he taught as an adjunct professor at the Levin College of Law. He was a ham radio enthusiast, a hobby since childhood; a runner, completing several marathons; and loved boating, skiing and photography. Mr. Ullman was an active member of the B’nai Israel community in Gainesville.
Survivors include; his wife of 35 years, Barbara Raff Ullman; a daughter, Elizabeth Ullman, of Chicago, IL and a son, Michael Ullman, of Denver, CO.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 1:00 P. M., in the Synagogue of Congregation B’nai Israel, 3830 NW 16th Blvd., Gainesville, with Rabbi David Kaiman, officiating.
