Samuel Joel Fick's Obituary
Samuel Joel Fick was born on September 25th, 2001 in Escondido, California. He died on January 21st, 2025 in Gainesville, Florida. He was 23 years old.
Sam was a Paramedic Firefighter with the Alachua County Fire Rescue. He began his journey with the fire department as a Cadet in the ACFR youth program at the age of 16. He became a full-time member of the department in 2020 and completed the Paramedic program at Santa Fe College in the fall of 2023. He was promoted to Firefighter/Paramedic in September 2023 and was a proud member of the ACFR family. Being a Paramedic was a perfect fit for Sam on so many levels. It checked all the boxes of fraternity, loyalty, agility, bravery, and empathy that Sam embodied. Sam loved his work, genuinely cared for his colleagues, and had compassion on so many who were brought under his care.
Sam was naturally athletic. He loved baseball, basketball, and beach volleyball, and seemed to excel at virtually any sport he played. He loved his family, his friends, his Lord and his church and sought to use his many gifts for His glory. He volunteered to serve his community in many ways and served for several years as medical staff for the summer youth camp he loved and grew up attending. He was loyal and brave, kind and generous, loving and tender-hearted. With his bright eyes and infectious smile he could light up the room.
Sam loved his family and was greatly loved by them. Sam is survived by his parents, Joel and Marianne Fick, his brother Benjamin and wife Rebekah, his brother Nathanael, and his sister, Darya - all of Gainesville, Florida. He will be lovingly missed by his paternal grandparents, Daniel and Karen Fick of Moreno Valley, California; His maternal grandmother, Charlene Williams of Turlock, California; His maternal grandfather, Hal Willis and wife Barbara, of Long Beach, California; As well as his paternal great-grandmother, Ellen Carlson, of Moreno Valley, California, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. In addition to being lovingly missed by his immediate and extended family, he will be greatly missed by his many friends, his church family, his RYC family, and his ACFR family.
One of his favorite Scriptures that was listed at the top of his Instagram was 2 Corinthians 5:6-9 "So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him."
A Memorial Service for Sam will be held on Saturday, February 1st, 2025, at 11a.m. at
First Baptist Church 14105 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32606
