Ruth Glass Wermiel's Obituary
Ruth Glass Wermiel, 91, of Gainesville, Florida, died Thursday, August 18, 2016, in the Shands Hospital, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Wermiel was born on February 14, 1925 in Burlington, Vermont to the late Joseph and Mary Glass. She lived much of her adult life in Silver Springs, MD, working as a bookkeeper for N. O. A. A. Mrs. Wermiel moved to Miami, Florida in 1973 and then to Gainesville in 1980. She worked for the State of Florida, until her retirement.
Mrs. Wermiel was of the Jewish faith, an active member of Hadassah. Following her retirement, she began to paint, and her artwork now fills her families’ homes.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Nathan Wermiel, who passed away in 2001, and by her great granddaughter, Lydia Springham, in August of 2015.
Survivors include, her daughter, Sara Wermiel, of Boston, MA; two sons, Jared (Janice Zalen) Wermiel, of Silver Springs, MD, and Dan (Holly) Wermiel, of Lompoc, CA; grandchildren, Joel Wermiel, Beth (David) Springham, Tom Wermiel, Mark (Marilyn) Wermiel and Jonathan Wermiel; great granddaughters, Phoebe Springham and Malia Wermiel.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 19, 2016 at 2:00 P. M., in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
