Ruth Beryl Thomason
Ruth Beryl Thomason, 91, resident of Gainesville, Florida, died unexpectedly Sunday, November 24, 2013.
Mrs. Thomason was born on August 20, 1922 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Harold and Ruth Coburn. At a young age, she was a competitive swimmer and diver and held numerous New England records, later she graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelors degree in Nursing, and spent many years working as an RN, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, and later at Quonset Naval Air Station, in Rhode Island. She traveled with her husband, raising her four children, and finally retiring to Gainesville in 1976. Mrs. Thomason was an active member and Bible scholar and teacher at Trinity United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Van Thomason.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Gaines Thomason; two daughters, Diann Beryl Uustal, of Chattanooga, TN, and Caryl Ann Thomason, of Gainesville; one son, Thomas Charles Thomason, of Healdsburg, CA; son-in-law, Tom Uustal of Chattanooga, TN; two granddaughters, Kristy Uustal Stephens, of Glastonbury, CT, and Katie Uustal Catlender, of Scituate, MA. Five great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 29, 2013 at 2:00 P. M., in the Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church, with Dr. Dan Johnson, officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Central. The family will receive friends for one hour prior at the chapel, beginning at 1:00 P. M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to the education department at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 NW 53rd Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32653.
