Russell Loring Cook's Obituary
Russell Loring Cook (“Russ”), age 79, went Home to be with The Lord on March 19, 2026.
Born April 24, 1946, in Buffalo, New York, Russ spent much of his life in Broward County, Florida, and most recently in Alachua, Florida.
Over the past several months, Russ showed incredible strength while recovering from major surgery and completing radiation treatment. Despite his determination and resilience, his body ultimately could not withstand the challenges following a fall and subsequent surgery.
Russ devoted 45 years of his career to Parkson Corporation in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. His expertise was gained through his involvement with several products in application then marketing capacities, ultimately serving as Director of Process Engineering. His knowledge and experience in wastewater and water treatment took him to all 50 states and countries abroad. His final assignment was in Saudi Arabia before retiring in 2013. Throughout his career, he developed several patents and was deeply respected in his field.
Actively involved in his church community, Russ humbly taught adult Sunday School Life Application curriculum for many years, often noting he was as much the student as the teacher. His leadership skills helped guide the reopening of Turkey Creek Golf Course in 2021. Among his hobbies were stained glass, photography and travel.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice (“Jan”) Cook; his daughters, Michelle Dorminey and Tammy DeVoe (Ritch); his grandchildren, Jamie DeVoe and Eric DeVoe; his brother, David Cook (Christa); and his brother-in-law, Hugh Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Flora Geraldine Turner and Loring Russell Cook; his sister, Karen Meyer (wife of the late Darrell Meyer); and his son-in-law, Wendell Dorminey.
Russ will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
His life will be celebrated April 25, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Alachua 14005 NW 146th Avenue. Family will receive guests at 10:00 a.m. followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in memory of Russ Cook to Lary’s Speakeasy.org, a not-for-profit support organization for laryngectomy patients and their caregivers.
