Rosa Lee Genovar's Obituary
Rosa Lee Genovar, nee Thomas, 94, of Gainesville, FL, peacefully passed away January 15, 2021. One of ten children, she was born November 15, 1926, on the family farm to the late Groover Henry and Nancy Evelena Thomas. Upon graduation from high school, she moved to Gainesville where she began a career as a secretary. Soon she met a handsome, young soldier, William (Bill) F. Genovar, who was to become her husband after he returned from serving in Europe during WWII. Their devotion to each other never wavered throughout their 61 year marriage.
Rosa Lee was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, loving and caring for her family always. More than anything her faith in the Lord carried her through the difficult times and gave her strength, courage and the peace that passes understanding.
She was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church, but when she could no longer attend in person, she enjoyed watching the televised Sunday worship services of First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville.
Rosa Lee and Bill enjoyed many trips throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Her beloved gardening gave her much joy, and their beautiful yard was proof of her green thumb.
Rosa Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Genovar, her son, Mark Genovar, as well as eight of her siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Clayton (Howard) of Gainesville, grandsons, Joseph Lenz (Alison) of Sunrise Beach, MO, Daniel Clayton of Gainesville, Sara Armstrong (Chris) of Palatka, great grandchildren Ryan Lenz of Fairfax, VA, Katherine Lenz of Springfield, MO, sisters-in-law, Jeanne Thomas of LaCrosse, Barbara Thomas of LaCrosse and many nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid, a graveside service for family and close friends only, will be held on Saturday the 23rd at 11:00am at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, LaCrosse. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. Masks and social distancing will be required. Memorial donations may be made to: Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd, Gainesville, FL 32606 or New Hope Primitive Baptist Cemetery Association, PO Box 106, LaCrosse, FL 32658.
