I'm so lucky to have had such great, strong, and kind men in my life, including my own father. This Friday I will be celebrating the life of my father-in-law, Ron Joos Sr. who I also called Dad. But I celebrate him every day in my thoughts and memories. We loved to cook together, exchange recipes, and chat about our favorite shows on PBS, Acorn, and BBC, including but not limited to cooking shows. He made the best hot cocoa (a recipe from a book we both owned, "A Sweet Life in Paris,") or the most perfect soft-boiled eggs on freshly baked bread that he made in his own kitchen. We also loved to translate what our dogs Levi Napoleon and Marley Lafayette would be saying--mostly having to do with comfy, fluffy places to sleep, breakfast, dinner, or snacks in between. (Now Levi and Marley live together, and have taken ownership of the couch.) I had hoped to travel with him to Paris one day so he could guide Veronica and me around one of his favorite places on earth and practice our French. It happened too fast. Cherish every moment in this life.
