Ronald Lee Hayes' Obituary
Hayes, Ronald Lee, a long-time resident of Okeechobee, Florida, currently residing in High Springs FL., died on October 17, 2022. He was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on June 27, 1948, to Vergil L. and Bernice B. Hayes.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Jacque, his sister, Janice (Ron) Andrews; nephew Aaron (Amanda) Andrews; niece, Blair (Shawn) Poole; grand nephews, Alex Andrews and Evan Maroon and grand nieces, Emma Maroon, and Amber Andrews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his former fiancée, Paula Etheridge.
He was a graduate of Okeechobee High School, Indian River State College, and the University of Florida from which he received a degree in Broadcast-Journalism.
Ron had several careers in his lifetime. He was Program Director of both WOKC-AM/WLMC-FM in Okeechobee, and WGGG in Gainesville during the late ‘60s and early 70’s, Vice President of Marketing and Human Resources at Barnett Bank of Lake Okeechobee for 18 years and he taught various subjects at Okeechobee High School for ten years. One of Ron’s favorite positions was coordinator/director of Okeechobee Community Theatre. During his 40 years OCT he produced 88 Broadway-quality productions.
Hayes was a member of First Baptist Church of High Springs and a former deacon and Sunday School teacher at Oakview Baptist Church, Okeechobee.
A Celebration of Ronald’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of High Springs 20112 US-441 High Springs, FL. with Pastor Greg Waltermire.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ronald’s memory to First Christian Academy 24530 NW 199 Lane High Springs, FL. 32643
