Roderick "Rod" Hooten's Obituary
Roderick Hooten (Rod) of Newberry, FL, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016. He was born 9/19/1919 in Samson AL, to Fletcher J. Hooten and Martha Hooten. He lived most of his life in Florida.
Rod graduated from Laurel Hill High School in Laurel Hill, FL. and was a proud and patriotic WWII veteran. He worked in Gainesville in the insurance and retail parts industries, and farmed part time. He lived in Newberry since 1955. He loved fishing, farming, and driving his antique 1922 Model T Ford.
He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Hooten Ehrig (Roger) of Leesburg, FL,; sons R. Lewis Hooten of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Damon Allen Hooten (Dana) of Clearwater, FL and Gary Wayne Hooten of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren Arabella Hooten and Matthew Hooten of Clearwater, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
Rod was preceded in death by wife of 70 years, Evelyn Johns Hooten (2015), as well as brothers Royce, Ralph, and Raymond Hooten, and sisters Juanita Mays, Theda Orr, Christine Vann, Aimee Skinner, and Doris Green.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Central Chapel, 4100 N. W, 39th Ave. with Reverend Jennifer L. Sacks of Unity of Gainesville Church officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, January 29, 2016 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 N. W. 143rd St.
