Roden Percy "R.P." Davisworth's Obituary
Roden Percy “R. P.” Davisworth, 95, longtime resident of Gainesville, died Friday, February 19, 2016, in the E. T. York Hospice Care Center.
Mr. Davisworth was born August 6, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late George Alfred and Emma Jane Davisworth. During World War II, R.P. served in the U. S. Coast Guard as a Boatswains Mate, and then he then joined the Air Force, and served until his retirement with honors in 1960, working in communications at bases all over the world. Following his retirement and settling in Gainesville, he began a long career with the Veterans hospital. Mr. Davisworth was a longtime member of Parkview Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lillian Louise Davisworth; a daughter, Jane (Jeffrey) Hathorn, of Melrose; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Davisworth Hathorn and Cameron Charles Hathorn.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Monday, February 29, 2016 at 2:00 P. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 North Main Street, with Pastor Gregory Charles Magruder officiating, with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Haven Hospice, 6400 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, FL 32177.
