Robert Traut Wentworth's Obituary
Robert Traut Wentworth, a proud veteran of the U.S. Army went home to be with the Lord January 1, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was 70. The son of Nancy F. and Alfred R. Wentworth, Rob was born in 1952 in Orange, New Jersey. He spent his childhood living in Croydon, England where he attended Elmhurst School for Boys. While attending Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota he was drafted in 1974 at the age of 22 by the U.S. Army. He highly valued his service and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1979. Upon discharge, he began his career in consumer finance, later moving into his true passion, mortgage origination. After 30 years in finance, he hung up his hat and retired. With his love of people and desire for a meaningful retirement, Rob devoted his time as a companion to assist an older gentleman. He is remembered for his love of all things sports, especially the Florida Gators, an avid collector of classic films (John Wayne) and West Florida beaches, especially Siesta Key.
He was preceded in death by his mother Nancy F. Wentworth and father Alfred R. Wentworth of Sarasota, Florida.
He is survived by his son Derek T. Wentworth of Clermont, Florida, daughter Dawn N. Wentworth of Dallas, Texas, brother Alfred (Tad) Wentworth and sister-in-law Pam Wentworth of Jackson, New Jersey, grandson Brysen Wentworth, nieces Abby Joseph and Nora Wentworth along with many friend’s lives he touched.
A memorial service honoring the life of Rob will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Williams-Thomas Funeral Home at 404 N. Main Street, Gainesville, Florida 32601. Burial will be held at Florida National Cemetery Bushnell, Florida with Military Honors on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the DAV - Disabled American Veterans to honor Rob’s military service, passion for veterans and all of the staff at the VA Hospital in Gainesville, Florida who showed great care and compassion during his final days.
