Robert Sapp's Obituary
Robert Sapp of Gainesville, FL died surrounded by his loving family. He was 74.
Robert Sapp, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
He was born in Lake City, Florida but lived in Jasper before moving to Gainesville in 1972. He was a 1969 graduate of Jasper Sr. High School and attended Santa Fe Jr. College. To many he was known as Sapo or Bobby.
He was a carpenter for Gainesville Housing Authority for 20 years and former employee of Gator Door. He was Baptist.
Robert married Barbara on June 11, 1977. They were devoted to each other and were married for 47 years.
Mr. Sapp was devoted to the Community. He donated a lot of time to charity benefits and was an avid Florida Gator fan and fisherman.
He was fun-loving and outgoing. Always witty and fun to be around. He never met a stranger that didn’t think he was inspiring. Robert loved to work with wood. As his wife would always say: “He slept with a hammer or fishing rod in his hand.”
He will be remembered by his extended family and dear friends. Two daughters, Chali Marcoccia (Paul) of Orlando, Tania Lea of Melbourne, his son Robert Nilsson (Kellie) of Gainesville, five granddaughters: Taylor, Jordan, Bianca, Fiona and Sophia. One grandson: Christopher and many nephews, nieces and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Barbara in April of 2023.
He was the son of the late Eva & JB Sapp of Jasper and the brother of the late Loretta Marchant of Lake City and Billy Law of Tampa.
The Family will receive friends Friday, October 24, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Downtown Funeral Home, 404 North Main Street. A Celebration to honor the life of Bobby will be held Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A catered luncheon will follow right after celebration of life.
