Robert John Hemmes Sr.'s Obituary
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to cherished father and grandfather Robert John Hemmes Sr. He passed away on May 14th,2023,from a long illness. He was 80 years old.
He is survived by sons Robert (Marcy) Hemmes Jr., Raymond (Beth) Hemmes, step daughter Jennifer (David) Raiman, grandchildren, Danielle Estevez, Tyler Hemmes, David (Bridget) Raiman Jr., Jonathan Raiman, Matthew Raiman, Makaylah Raiman, and great grandson David Raiman III, and his sister Elizabeth (Richard) Harker.
Robert was predeceased by his wife Grace Canan Hemmes, and sister Joanne(George)Caputo.
He was born in Staten Island, NY on November 9th, 1942, and resided in Gainesville, FL.
He was a longtime Florida Gator fan and also proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for 6 years, joined the U.S. Army National Guard and served for 17 years. He worked at the VA hospital as a Physician Assistant in Gainesville, FL for 25 years.
He was married to Grace Canan Hemmes for 25 years and they bonded over their mutual love of the Florida Gators and the NY Yankees.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 19,2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Williams-Thomas Westarea 823 N.W. 143rd St. Newberry, Fl.32669
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday May 20,2023 at 12:00 noon at Holy Faith Catholic Church 747 N.W. 43rd Street Gainesville, FL.32607. with Fr. Jose Kulathinal as celebrant.
All friends and family are welcome. The family asks that donations to The ASPCA, Stop Soldier Suicide, American Diabetes Association The VA or any Veterans charity of your choice be made instead of flowers.
