Robert Lee Edwards Jr.'s Obituary
Robert Lee Edwards, Jr., age 74 of Hawthorne, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 in Shands at the University of Florida Hospital. He was born May 5, 1940 in Cedartown, Georgia. He resided in Rome, Georgia until 1961 when he moved to Gainesville. He married his childhood sweetheart, Martha Ann Cumbess, on June 15, 1961. Robert was the owner of Edwards Auto Salvage and was a member of First Baptist Church of Hawthorne.
Robert was a family man who loved to share stories from his past adventures. He loved fast cars and old westerns. He never met a stranger and enjoyed making memories with family and friends. He enjoyed riding the John Deere with Bailey Anne and discovering the shadow with Corey, showing the world his princess Nikki and teaching the trade to his tow truck buddy Dustin.
We lost our hero and our family will never be the same, but the memories made will never be forgotten. He will live in our hearts forever.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha Edwards; daughter, Brenda Edwards; son, Robert E. Edwards (Sharon); sisters, Virginia Clark (Emmett), Betty Patton (Johnnie) and Minnie Edwards; brothers, Harold Edwards (Nancy) and Charles Edwards (Charlie) and grandchildren, Nikki Moore, Dustin Edwards, Corey Edwards and Brittany Dykes; great granddaughter, Bailey Edwards and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, R.L. Edwards, Sr. and Bertha Gilland Edwards; sisters, Barbara Padgett and Patricia Gilmore and brother, Cliff Edwards.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, January 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., in First Baptist Church of Hawthorne, 22027 SE 65th Avenue, with Pastor Charles Litzell officiating. Interment will follow in the family cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 29, 2015, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., at the church.
