Mr. Robert Gene Durden's Obituary
Mr. Robert Gene Durden, 75, resident of Trenton, Florida, died Saturday, April 13, 2024, in the North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville, following a long illness.
Mr. Durden was born in Trenton, Florida on May 19, 1948, to the late Cleveland Durden. As a child his family moved to West Palm Beach, where he attended Pompano High School. He started working as a young man as a ranch hand, first for the Remy-Lou Ranch and later moving up to foreman for the Allapattah Ranch, both in Okeechobee, Florida, and later worked as a foreman for the Sheltra & Sons Construction. Gene moved back to the Trenton area in 1996. He had attended the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Bell. Gene will be remembered as a hard worker, a man who loved to tinker with whatever needed fixing; he loved fishing and the Florida Gators but more than anything he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Durden and by two sisters, Nancy Sapp, and Mary Davis.
Gene is survived by his wife, Charlotte Durden, of Trenton; his mother, Lucille Ambrose, of Deerfield; by two daughters, Linda (John) Shepard and Brandy (Scott) Varnon, both of Trenton; three sons, Luke (Brittany) Durden, of Okeechobee, Travis Durden of Trenton, and Buddy Dampier, of Jacksonville; two brothers, Bill (Linda) Durden, of Etowah, TN and Joe Ambrose, of Deerfield; a sister, Shirley Howell, of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, Carissa (Nick) Boettger; Kelly Rea (Dominic Lee) Varnon, Sheltin Varnon, Raylin Durden and Tristan Durden, and Colton and Donna Dampier and seven great grandchildren, Hunter Lewis, Brantley Michael, Kason Alan, Kinsely Ross, Declan John and Hayden Reign Boettger and Dallas Ann Lee.
The family will be hosting a celebration of Gene’s life with a cookout on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 1:00 P. M., at his home in Trenton, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, at www.stjude.org/donate.
