Robert George Dean, 84 Robert G. Dean of Gainesville, FL passed away Saturday February 28, 2015 at North Florida Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Robert (Bob) was born November 1, 1930 in Laramie, WY, to Read Obituary
I had Dr. Dean for a Fluid Mechanics class at the University of Delaware, and learned of his passing in a publication from there. I remember his patience in explaining the concepts. I am so sorry to hear of his passing and I hope that his family takes comfort in the legacy of work and good will that he leaves.

The Town of North Topsail Beach, N.C., retained Dr. Dean in 2009 to review a Beach Nourishment recommendation the Town was considering. I was Chair of the committee studying the Town's beach erosion challenge. Dr. Dean was the consummate professional. He was a true gentleman who immediately gained the respect and admiration of our Town officials. I was very fond of Dr. Dean. My condolences to his family.

I have very fond memories of Dr. Dean, both during graduate school and after. He was so gifted in his field and yet so kind and humble. He will be missed.
I had the privilege of working at UF for 20 years as Dr. Dean’s secretary. His dedication to teaching instilled the same strong ethics in his students. I will remember all the casual lunches at Harry’s which Dr. Dean organized for Coastal & Civil secretarial staff even after some of us ladies retired from UF. Dr. Dean was my professor in Gainesville between 1972 and 1973. I was also his assistant a that time. He is one of the persons that I have admired most in my life. I was particularly impressed by his humility, and of course by his outstanding capabilities as coastal engineer and professor. Although he was almost 20 years older than I and we lived thousand of miles apart we were friends and from time to time we exchanged emails and occasionally I had the good luck of meeting him again in person. He was always ready to answer all my communications and made me feel as very important to him. I am very sad that he is no longer available. My respects to his widow, daughter, son, and all other relatives and friends.
